The Centre today asked agriculture universities and Krishi Vighyan Kendras (KVKs) to organise a 12-day programme to communicate the government's farm initiatives in all districts from August 19.

They have been asked to encourage farmers and students to attend a two-and-half hour programme that aims to celebrate 'Sankalp Se Siddhi: New India Manthan (2017-22)' and take a resolution of doubling farmers' income by 2022.

This was communicated to vice-chancellors of agri varsities and heads of KVKs by Union Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh through an audio conferencing today, an official statement said.

Singh has written to all ministers and MPs to grace the district-level programme where a pledge will also be taken to free the country from poverty, corruption, terrorism, communalism, casteism and the like, it said.

A video message of the prime minister as also the central government's initiatives in the farm sector will be shown at the event, the statement added.
