Setting at rest the controversy over location of Central University, Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh on Thursday said that there would be only "one campus" of the varsity.

"The issue of location of the Central University in Kangra district has been so much politicised by few in opposition that the fate of this university has been hanging fire for last five years and I strongly favour that the University should have one campus" he said while addressing a rally at Jawalamukhi in Kangra district.

He said that the BJP favoured that the University should have two separate campuses at Dehra and Dharamsala and the setting up of the university was marred in political controversy due to attitude of the BJP.

Having a dig at the BJP, he said that its leaders were playing politics by demanding two campuses but in fact they wanted major part of the University to be located in Hamirpur district.

"We won't allow two campuses of the university distance apart but finally it was up to the Central government to decide the issue" he said adding that the people, who follow the policy of divide and rule, may be good politicians but they are not true benefactors of the people.

The state government enjoys good relations with the Government of India and hopes that the central assistance would keep coming unabated as it was the responsibility of the Center to assist all the States irrespective of the party in power, he said.
