Central social security schemes launched in Meghalaya

Union Minister of State for Agriculture Mohanbhai Kalyanjibhai Kundariya along with Meghalaya Chief Minister Mukul Sangma on Saturday launched the three Central social security schemes here today.

The schemes Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana (PMSBY), Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana (PMJJBY) and Atal Pension Yojana (APY) were being simultaneously launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi across the country from Kalkota.

Speaking on the occasion, Kundariya said the Government of India, State Governments and banks should make a joint effort to publicise the schemes and also for their effective implementation to benefit the people of the country.

"These schemes will immensely benefit the rural masses of the country," Kundariya said terming these schemes a "dream come true". While expressing deep appreciation of the Central schemes that would also benefit the people of the state, Sangma urged the bank authorities for opening more bank branches in the rural areas not only in Meghalaya, but in the entire North Eastern region.

Sangma said that the state has already have bank branches in all the Blocks and expressed the need to have more bank branches beyond the Blocks. In order to cater to this need of having more bank branches, the banks could conduct special recruitment drives so that the rural masses could easily also avail these schemes, the CM said. The replica of 'Pass Books' were distributed to the ten beneficiaries who have already registered the schemes by Kundariya and Sangma on the occasion.
