On his first visit after the controversy over BJP's rath yatra plans and three days after Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee brought together political leaders of over 20 parties, BJP president Amit Shah kick-started his Bengal poll campaign stating that the LS poll verdict will be a different one and not that of panchayat elections. "This time the elections will be conducted under the supervision of Central forces. So there will not be any reason to be afraid of," Shah said, referring to the violence during the local body elections.

Shah urged BJP workers and people to help BJP win 23-plus seats from Bengal in the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections so that it would mark the end of TMC rule in Bengal in 2021 Assembly elections. "We want the Modi-led government to be re-elected in India but it is more important for Bengal. It will decide the fate of TMC dictatorship here," Shah said at the Save West Bengal, Save Democracy rally at Sahapur in Malda district.

Lashing out at the TMC Shah said the Mamata government did not allow rath yatra to take place in Bengal because it knew that it would mark the end of the TMC rule in Bengal. "There has been a politicisation of administration. Even my helicopter was denied permission of landing. I can understand the pressure the district magistrate must be under. But the days of suffering are numbered now. Even Ravana's tyranny did not continue for too long. If you don't give permission to my copter I will speak from copter. If you don't allow yatra we will take out rallies. If you don't allow rallies we will walk," Shah said.

Talking about illegal immigrants he said that if BJP is voted to power in West Bengal, there would not be any cross-border infiltration allowed from Bangladesh. "The BJP will ensure that there will not be a single case of infiltration. We are trying to pass the Citizenship Amendment Bill and Mamata is resisting it because of her vote bank politics," he said.
