Bihar's Katihar Superintendent of Police (SP), Siddharth Mohan Jain has come under the scanner for celebratory firing during at a joint farewell party for Jain and Katihar District Magistrate Mithilesh Mishra on Tuesday evening. The celebratory firing led to repercussions and Jain's deputation to the Central Bureau of Investigation being withdrawn by the state police headquarters. "The action does not befit a police officer. It is unacceptable. We have informed the state government about cancelling his central deputation. An inquiry has also been initiated against him," said S K Singhal, Additional Director General of Police (Headquarters), Bihar.

In a video clip of the incident that surfaced, Mishra was seen singing "Ye dosti, hum nahi todenge" from the film Sholay, while Jain takes out his pistol to fire 7-10 rounds of bullets in air while humming the song has gone viral.

The Bihar government on April 27, had effected a major administrative reshuffle transferring about 70 IAS and IPS officials and several other BAS and BPS officials in the state.

The farewell functions of outgoing Munger SP Ashish Bharti and Vaishali SP Rakesh Kumar also courted controversy. Bharti, in his police uniform, was seen dancing with other cops and civilians, on the Haryanvi number "Teri Aankho ka Yo Kajal", with the farewell party turning into a virtual road show in Munger. In Vaishali, Kumar exchanged "Var Maala" with his better half at the farewell party, which coincided with his wedding anniversary on April 30.

Both incidents have been taken cognizance by the state police headquarters and an inquiry has been ordered.
