When the entire nation was celebrating Eid-ul-Fitr with gaiety, there was a chaos on the borders and the streets of Srinagar on Saturday.

Pakistani army guns spewed fire on the line of control (LoC) targeting civilians and Indian forward positions injuring five people in Poonch sector, while stone throwers went on a rampage in the summer capital city of Srinagar waving Islamic State (IS), Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) and Pakistani flags.

Pakistani army violated ceasefire twice in the last 16 hours targeting Indian army positions and civilian areas alike in Poonch and Rajouri districts of Jammu division.

Pakistani army first resorted to unprovoked firing on the Indian positions along the Line of Control in the Nowshera Sector of Rajouri district on Friday night.

"Pakistan troops opened small arms fire on Indian troops deployed in forward posts in Nowshera Sector at 2125 hours. Troops on own side of Line of Control retaliated appropriately. The intermittent fire lasted till 2355 hours. No causality or damage was reported till last reports came in", said Lieutenant Colonel Manish Mehta, defence spokesman at Jammu.

Later on Saturday afternoon Pakistani army opened another front in the Poonch sector targeting the civilian areas along the border line injuring five civilians including three women.

"Pakistani troops opened small arms fire on Indian troops deployed in forward posts in Poonch sector at 1345 hours. The intermittent fire is still continuing. Troops on own side of LoC are retaliating appropriately", said Lieutenant Colonel Mehta

Pakistani troops specifically pounded Shahpur and Qasba villages which are situated along the LoC in the Poonch district. "Five injured people including three women and two men were brought to district hospital Poonch for treatment. Small arms fire is still going on. Our teams are on the spot", JS Johar, Senior Superintendent of Police, Poonch, told dna.

Tension on the borders also cast its shadows on the customary exchange of sweets between Indian and Pakistani troops on Eid. "Sweets were not offered in Jammu frontier either by BSF or Pakistani Rangers on the occasion of Eid", a BSF spokesman said in Jammu.

While Indian army was battling it out on the borders, police and paramilitary forces had a hard time to quell stone pelting mobs which unfurled the flags of IS, LeT and Pakistan in the old Srinagar city.

Soon after the Eid prayers, a large group of youth, some of them masked, started shouting pro-freedom and anti India slogans in the old city area. Minutes later a group of hooded youth unfurled Pakistani and IS flags. Some youth also waved LeT flags and shouted provocative slogans.

Police and paramilitary forces immediately swung into action using cane-charge and firing smoke shells to disperse the mob which pelted stones and rocks on the security forces. The ding dong battle continued for few hours before the order was restored in the area. Reports of clashes were also reported from Anantnag in south Kashmir after Eid prayers.

BJP, which is a coalition partner of the ruling PDP, said the youth who are waving the flags are trying to attract the media attention. "The trouble mongers are trying to attract media attention and portray that there are differences in the ruling coalition. Police is already on the job and they are taking actions against these trouble mongers", said Khalid Jahangir, BJP spokesman at Srinagar.
