With unprovoked ceasefire violation by Pakistan increasing manifold post-Pulwama attack, Army chief General Bipin Rawat visited Western Command headquarters and reviewed the operational preparedness. He was updated on the current operational situation, prevailing security environment and preparedness, especially in Amritsar and Samba sectors.
It has been found that post-Pulwama attack, there have been 230 ceasefire violations incidents at the Line of Control (LoC) as Pakistan continues firing artillery, mortar and small-arms fire. This year till the Pulwama attack on February 14, there were a total of 267 ceasefire violations incidents till date.
General Rawat, during his visit at Western Command headquarters, interacted with the officers. "He was briefed and updated on the current operational situation, prevailing security environment and preparedness of the formations, especially in Amritsar and Samba Sectors," an Army statement said.
General Rawat expressed his complete confidence in the capabilities of the Indian Army to thwart any nefarious Pakistan design to destabilise any situation. He also praised high state of morale of troops and instructed them to remain prepared for all eventualities, in close coordination with the Air Force.
In Pulwama terror attack on February 14 this year, 40 Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel lost their lives. Thereafter, there was escalated skirmishes between India and Pakistan at the border with both the nation firing including heavy artillery using the 155 MM Howitzers at each other on a regular basis.
Further, forces in Jammu and Kashmir has intensified anti-terror operations as after the Pulwama attack, 16 terrorists have been killed and before Pulwama attack, 28 terrorists were killed.
Witnessing the tensed situation at the border, General Rawat has also visited forward locations in Jammu and Kashmir to assess preparedness on the ground and also the enemy threat. Last week, he had visited the Nagrota-based White Night Corp.
