After two days of lull, Pakistan army resumed firing and shelling on the Indian forward positions and civilian areas along the Line of Control (LoC) in the Poonch and Akhnoor sectors of the Jammu division.

Pakistan first violated ceasefire in Akhnoor sector when it resorted to unprovoked firing and shelling using mortals and small arms. However there was no loss of life or injury in the cross border firing.

"At about 3 am Pakistan initiated unprovoked ceasefire violation by shelling with wortars and firing of small arms in Akhnoor Sector. Indian Army retaliated strongly and effectively", said Lieutenant Colonel Devender Anand, defence spokesman at Jammu

Later in the evening Pakistan army opened another front in Poonch sector when they fired mortars to target Indian forward positions. "Pakistan continues with its nefarious designs along LoC. At about 5.30 pm Pakistan initiated unprovoked ceasefire violation by shelling with mortars and firing of small Arms in Poonch Sector", said Lieutenant Colonel Anand.

Troops immediately swung into action and retaliated in equal measure to silence the Pakistan guns in both the sectors along the Line of Control in Jammu division.

The Cross LoC peace bus `Karawan-e-Aman', which was scheduled to cross on Monday did not cross sides from the Chakan da Bagh crossing in Poonch district.

Deputy Commissioner of Poonch Rahul Yadav said Pakistani authorities told them that they were under the impression that there will be no crossing because of Shivratri on Monday.

"We had not made any request in this regard. Plus they also did not communicate earlier (about not permitting the crossing)", he said.

Four people including two women were killed and two others injured in cross border shelling since the tension gripped the LoC after Indian Air Force jets bombed the Jaish-e-Mohommad terror camps in Balakote area of Manshera in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province of Pakistan.

"There is no evacuation of the people from border areas. However we have shifted 42 people of an extended family which lost three members in the cross border shelling in Salotri village some days ago. They were shifted as their houses were damaged not because of any kind of panic", said Yadav.

Official figures reveal that Pakistan carried out 1,599 ceasefire violations (CFV) along the Line of Control (LoC) in which 20 security force personnel were killed in 2018.

More than 109 people including 35 army soldiers and 21 BSF personnel were killed while 565 people were injured including 302 civilians and 263 security force personnel in the cross border firing since January 2016 to July 2018.
