In an effort to curb the rising spate of crimes against women in the national capital, the latest one being the rape of a four-year-old girl, the Arvind Kejriwal-government on Tuesday decided to light up about 1,200 dark spots across the city and bring about a proposal to install CCTVs there.

The Delhi PWD will lit up all such spots across Delhi, where either there are no street lights or are non-functional. The department will also be responsible for bringing out the proposal to install CCTVs all over Delhi, especially in the 274 'vulnerable'locations.

"Cabinet took 2 imp decisions 4 women safety -PWD shud lit up all dark spots in Del n bring a proposal soon to put CCTV cameras all over Del," Kejriwal tweeted on Wednesday.

Government officials also said that if the Centre doesn't sanction immediate release the portion of the Rs1,000 crore Nirbhaya fund meant for Delhi, the Delhi government is ready to pay for the lights as well as the CCTVs.

Sources, recently the Delhi government had written to the Centre, asking for the release of Nirbhaya Fund.
