Tightening its noose on Chhota Rajan gang, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has registered three separate cases allegedly involving Rajan gang members and have taken over the investigation of these cases on the request of Maharashtra government.
According to the CBI, the first case was earlier registered in 1999 under section 387 for putting a person in fear of death or of grievous hurt, in order to commit extortion of Indian Penal Code (IPC) at Nirmal Nagar Police Station against unknown persons. “It was alleged in the complaint that during the period from March 02, 1999 to April 08, 1999, the unknown accused persons identifying themselves as Rohit, John, Ashok of Chhota Rajan gang made telephonic calls to complainant and threatened him with dire consequences to extort money to the tune of Rs 25 lakh. In this case, provisions of MCOC Act were subsequently applied by the local police,” said a CBI official.
He added, the second case was earlier registered in 1998 under section 302 (murder), 307 (attempt to commit murder), 34 (common intention)of IPC and sections of Arms Act at Tilak Nagar Police Station against two unknown persons. “It was alleged that on October 07, 1998 when deceased Bala Kotiyan along with his friend was sitting at Navgrah Hotel, two unknown persons holding revolver and pistol entered the hotel and opened fire at Kotiyan resulting into his death and injuring his friend,” said the official.
The third case was registered in 2004 at Navghar Police Station in 2004 against three unknown persons. “It was alleged that on July 31, 004 accused persons with common intention forcibly entered in the office of complainant at Mulund (E), posing themselves as Rajan gang members and assaulted complainant and his servant and demanded money on gun point. In this case, provisions of MCOC Act were subsequently applied by the police,” the official said.
