CBI summons Kolkata Deputy Mayor in Narada case

Sources at the Central agency said Iqbal has been summoned to be questioned about the role he played in the sting operation.

In the latest development in the Narada Sting operation case, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has sent notice to TMC MLA and deputy mayor of the Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC), Iqbal Ahmed, summoning him for questioning.

Ahmed has been asked to be present at the CBI office at Nizam Palace on AJC Bose Road in south Kolkata on June 10. In all, 13 names have been come up in the Narada case which comprised 12 TMC leaders one IPS officer, SMZ Mirza. Ahmed's name was the fourth in the list.

Sources at the Central agency said Iqbal has been summoned to be questioned about the role he played in the sting operation. "He will be asked basic questions about why had he introduced Samuel to the leaders and if he himself had taken money or any other favours," said a CBI official.

It was found out that other than the video clips that had been released by the news agency, there were other clips which prove that Ahmed had played a pivotal role in the entire episode.

"We believe that there are other influential people who are involved in the scam whose names will come to the surface if we question Ahmed. And our case will also be stronger," he added.

Besides Ahmed and Mirza, others who have been accused in the Narada case are Rajya Sabha MP Mukul Roy, Lok Sabha MPs Sultan Ahmed, Dr Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar, Saugata Roy, Prasun Banerjee and Aparupa Poddar. State minsters Subrata Mukherjee, Firhad Hakim, Sovan Chatterjee, Suvendu Adhikari and ex-state transport minister Madan Mitra.
