A case of disproportionate assets worth Rs6.14 crore has been registered by CBI against suspended Delhi government official Sanjay Pratap Singh, who is currently in judicial custody after being arrested by the probe agency on bribery charges earlier this month.

Singh, was found to be either an owner or co-owner of at least eight properties in Delhi-NCR area, and the agency has now calculated the total worth of these flats to be somewhere around four crore rupees. The four crore rupee amount is the sum Singh allegedly paid to purchase the flats and not the current market price of the same.

The CBI had also recovered 31 gold bars weighing 3.2 kg which are stated to be worth Rs83 lakh. The gold bars were recovered from bank lockers of the suspended senior IAS officer along with 5279 US dollars and 1230 UK pounds, all of which forms a part evidence of the DA case against Singh.

Official sources also told dna another 22 bank accounts were found registered under Singh and his family members. The total amount of money in these 22 accounts is said to be somewhere between Rs2 to 2.5 crore.

Singh, who was the principal secretary of Delhi government's welfare department, was arrested by the probe agency on December 8, along with his PA, when he was caught red-handed in a trap laid by the CBI. This was after a complainant, who is apparently an AAP volunteer, approached the CBI and accused Singh of demanding a bribe from him.

AAP claimed that complainant did so on the direction of Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal. The complainant had claimed that Singh demanded a sum of Rs2.2 lakh from him. The complainant's firm was providing manpower in the form of security guards to the department of welfare and Singh had, through his PA asked for a bribe to clear certain bills.

The agency claimed after receiving a complaint from the owner of the firm, an undercover CBI official was sent in to meet the PA who first checked the money and allegedly kept Rs 20,000 for himself. The remaining sum was taken outside welfare department's Vikas Minar office in ITO area of Delhi where Singh was allegedly waiting in his car for his PA. As soon as the money was delivered to him, the CBI took him in custody. In subsequent raid expensive watches, more than 300 bottles of foreign liquor (including expensive scotch) and jewelry, was recovered by the CBI.

Singh, (an IAS officer of 1984 Batch of AGMUT cadre), was appointed as the head of department of welfare of scheduled castes, scheduled tribes and minorities in August 2014.
