The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) carried out a raid at Lok Sabha MP Tapas Pal’s south Kolkata residence on Wednesday, in connection with the ongoing investigation into the Rose Valley Group.

Pal is a Trinamool Congress MP from Krishnanagar constituency in West Bengal. Pal is believed to be a former director with the Rose Valley Group.

According to sources, the CBI will be examining the documents at Pal’s residence and if required would question him too, over his frequent meetings with Rose Valley Group chairman Gautam Kundu. Sources in the CBI reveal that Pal had taken money on several occasions from Deb. The agency will now investigate into the deals signed between Pal and Deb.

“Apart from the offices, searches are being conducted at the residential premises of Rose Valley Group chairman Gautam Kundu, managing director Shibamoy Dutta and then directors Abir Kundu, Ramlal Goswami, Ashok Kumar Saha and present Lok Sabha MP Tapas Pal,” an official statement from the CBI said.

Rose Valley is one of the alleged deposit-taking companies whose name has featured in the list of ponzi firms prepared by the Corporate Ministry.

This apart, the CBI carried out marathon searches across West Bengal over six hours in connection with the investigation into the Rose Valley Group of Companies on Wednesday.

“In an ongoing investigation, searches are being conducted at 43 locations across the country including 27 in West Bengal, 7 in Tripura and 1 location each in Odisha, Assam, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Bihar, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh and Tamil Nadu,” said an official statement from the CBI said.

Besides CBI, the Enforcement Directorate(ED) is also conducting probe against the company and has frozen few hundreds of bank accounts and fixed deposit certificates. ED is of the opinion that money raised by Rose Valley was six times bigger than that raised by Saradha Group.
