The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has collected a trunk full of documents from the Ministry of Finance wherein the agency claimed to have found transactions and trails that establish a "direct role" of Karti Chidambaram's company receiving remittance from INX Media. The agency has also reportedly managed to track records wherein Karti, his companies directors were in constant touch with then secretaries in the finance ministry as well as Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB). The CBI states that they have documentary evidences that establishes the "entire networks and channels" used by Karti.

The agency recovered the documents from the ministry under "secret notes", which included file notings and other relevant documents pertaining to Karti's companies along with documentary evidences to establish how two companies received remittance from foreign shores.

The CBI also questioned then secretary of department of Economic Affairs in the Finance Ministry who was the chairman of FIPB. "The board also consisted of secretary of department of Industrial Policy and Promotion, and secretary of department of Commerce under Ministry of Commerce, secretary of Economic Relations under Ministry of External Affairs, and secretary of Ministry of Overseas Indian Affairs," said a source in the investigating agencies probing the case against Karti.

But before that, the sources stated that the agency will grill two members of the board who were in touch with Karti and his companies' directors and helped INX Media get FIPB clearance.

Apart from this, the CBI has also statements of Indrani Mukerjea and Peter Mukerjea who had stated that the Congress leader and former union minister P Chidambaram had directed them to meet his son and help him in his business and also to make "foreign remittances" for the FIPB clearance.

The CBI also stated that Karti used his influence with then Finance Minister P Chidambaram to help scuttle any punitive action against the INX group. The agency also stated that there are few unknown officers and officials of the Finance Ministry who abused their official position to help INX Media. "As a consideration for such acts, INX Media paid substantial amounts to the companies in which Karti had sustainable interest directly or indirectly,"said a CBI officer.
