For the first time, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has found a common link in the murders of Narendra Dabholkar, MM Kalburgi, Govind Pansare and journalist Gauri Lankesh. All the four killings were pre-planned acts of terror, the agency claimed adding that all the killers were from right-wing group Sanatan Sanstha and its sister organisation Hindu Jan Jagriti Samiti.

The agency, in a its submission before a Pune court, stated that the Sanatan Sanstha and its sister organisation Hindu Jan Jagriti Samiti have been involved in unlawful activities from 2006 onward; starting from Thane Blast case and Vashi Blast case.

"In 2013, Virendrasinh Tawde, deputy chief organiser of Hindu Jan Jagriti Samiti, was the mastermind of the murder of Dabholkar, and he was also accused in murder of Pansare. In 2016, murder of Dr Kalburgi occurred wherein the role of Sanatan Sanstha and its sister organisation has been established. In 2017, Gauri Lankesh was murdered in Bengaluru by members of Hindu Jan Jagruit Samiti and its affiliates," the agency stated.

The CBI and the Maharashtra ATS are now investigating the links among various right-wing organisations suspected to be involved in the four murders. The agencies are looking into their contacts elsewhere in the country, their other possible targets and their modus operandi.

Recently, the agency has decided to slap sections of UAPA against accused arrested in Narender Dabholkar murder case.
