Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) director Ranjit Sinha, who is under fire for allegedly meeting high-profile accused in various scams like 2G at his official residence, on Friday submitted an affidavit to the Supreme Court, wherein he is believed to have denied any wrongdoing.

Sinha's meeting with top officials of the Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group (ADAG) at 2, Janpath – his official residence – was first reported by dna on September 2.

Sinha, who filed his affidavit in a sealed cover, also requested the court to initiate a perjury case against Prashant Bhushan, counsel for the petitioner-NGO – Centre for Public Interest Litigation (CPIL) – for providing the court with wrong facts.

dna, which has access to the visitors' diary at 2, Janpath, reported that top ADAG officials met Sinha at least 50 times in 15 months. Sinha is already under attack for allegedly trying to derail the 2G trial against Reliance Telecom.

The two ADAG officials appear to be Tony Jesudasan and AN Sethuraman. The cars in which they came to Sinha's residence are registered in the name of ADAG.

Bringing to the court's notice the dna report, Bhushan moved an application for an order to the Centre for Sinha's removal and also a probe against him by the Special Investigating Team for allegedly abusing his official position.

Sinha's affidavit is in compliance with the apex court order, which, had on September 8, directed him to respond to the averments made against him, holding they were 'serious' in nature.

Talking to dna, Sinha's counsel, senior advocate Vikas Singh, said: "The averments against Sinha are blatantly false. We will press for the hearing of our plea for perjury against the lawyer."

A bench, headed by Justice H L Dattu, which fixed the matter for hearing on September 15, had taken serious objection to Sinha's reluctance to file an affidavit and directed him to file his response.

It also took on record the visitors' diary at the CBI director's residence, which was handed over by Bhushan.

Bhushan had referred to the series of stories, published by dna, on the many meetings Sinha had with the accused in various scams, like coal-scam accused Congress leaders Subodh Kant Sahay and Vijay Darda and meat exporter Moin Quereshi.
