CBI books gun shop owner, BSF trooper

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has registered a case against a Border Security Force trooper, a retired district magistrate and the owner of a gun shop in Jammu for getting private arms licences at Rs 12,000 on the basis of false and forged documents.

The CBI has booked the three for criminal conspiracy, cheating, forgery, contravenes of the condition of arms licence or and criminal misconduct. According to the FIR, all the applicants were posted at Frontier Headquarters, Gandhi Nagar, Gujarat who did not belong to Rajouri and Shopian districts, wherefrom the licences issued in favour of nine BSF personnel. The agency had initiated a preliminary enquiry in the case in 2014.

According to CBI, the case was registered on a complaint of then Additional Director General BSF KK Sharma, who alleged that PK Sharma, the owner of Nav Durga Gun House, Jammu had charged Rs 12,000 per licence from BSF personnel for providing arm licences.

"The amount was higher than requisite fee on the basis of false and forged documents knowingly using these documents, as genuine. In furtherance of the said criminal conspiracy, then District Magistrate (Rajouri) Faquir Chand Bhagat who approved all the questioned arms licence in violation of the existing rules and procedure and without due verification," the FIR said.
