In a global child pornography case, the CBI has launched a worldwide probe and approached 40 countries through Interpol and sought their help to nab the accused in their countries. The agency sought details of mobile phone owners who were part of a WhatsApp group, in which certain images and videos were shared.
The agency has approached the countries through Interpol and many of them have responded, including the US and Pakistan. The CBI stated that there were 234 members in the "child pornography group" comprising 66 Indian numbers, 56 Pakistani, 29 from the US and the remaining from 37 other countries.
The agency stated that some countries have shared information related to the users, without giving further details as the disclosure might adversely affect the ongoing probe.
The agency busted a global child pornography network on social media last month and had registered a case against members of a WhatsApp group for allegedly uploading and circulating videos.The agency had arrested one of the main administrators of the group and kingpin, Nikhil Verma, who along with five others ran the group named "KidsXXX".
The agency had carried out raids at five places in Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra.
The agency searched the premises of Verma and four other administrators of the group - Satyendra Chauhan, Nafees Raja, Zahid and Adarsh.The agency also questioned the other administrators and recorded their statements.
This group was in existence for two years and Verma was operating from Kannauj in UP. Verma, aged 20 years, is a commerce graduate and unemployed.
The agency registered a case under section 67-B of Information and Technology Act and provisions of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO) against members of the group.
