Caught on Camera: Doctors' argue during surgery of pregnant woman in Jodhpur; HC takes cognizance

A verbal spat between two doctors during C-Section surgery of a pregnant woman in Rajasthan's Jodhpur was caught on camera.

The doctors in a video can be seen arguing loudly and threatening each other in Hindi while operating a pregnant woman in the operation room. However, it was not clear what lead to the argument between the two.

The Rajasthan High Court has taken cognizance in the matter.

A bench of Justice Gopal Krishna Vyas directed two officials of the high court legal services authority namely Dhiraj Sharma, deputy secretary and Ratan Ojha to probe the matter and file the report by 2:00 pm onWednesday.

On the directions of court both the officials have reached the hospital for inquiry High court took the cognizance in the matter after a video got viral in which two doctors were seen fighting inside the operation theatre during surgery.

“ Dr  Ashok Nainival, assistant professor of obstetrics and gynaecology and  Dr Mathura Lal Tak, professor of  anesthesia are removed from the hospital,” Dr Amilal Bhat, principal of  Dr SN Medical College and controller of Umaid hospital told DNA.

“The two were removed immediately after the matter was reported. A probe committee of Dr Desai, Professor UD  Sharma, and pediatrician  Dr  Rakesh Jora has been formed for further inquiry,” said Dr  Bhat.

The woman was brought in a critical condition to the hospital and was immediately shifted to the operation theater for a C-section. She lost her baby soon afterward. Though, it not confirmed so far if the newborn’s death was because of the spat.

State’s medical education department terminated the services of Dr Nainival as an assistant professor in the hospital. The medical college wrote to the department of personnel to take action against Dr ML Tak.

Reacting to the incident, health minister Kalicharan Saraf, told DNA: ““It was an unfortunate incident that two senior doctors found indulged in verbal spat inside the OTr during an operation. Inquiry has been initiated by the medical college and both the doctors are removed from the hospital. Strict action will be taken once the inquiry report comes to ensure that such incident will not repeat in future.”

The state women’s commission also termed the incident serious, and RSWC chairman Suman Sharma asked for a probe and a report will be submitted to the commission.
