The Common Admission Test (CAT) 2014 results were announced on Saturday evening. The results were expected to be released in the third week of November but due to some technical glitch, the results were postponed to be released on Saturday, December 27. Gates of 19 IIMs around India and other business schools have opened up for the students now.

Reports say students were unable to log on to the website because of technical glitches. Soon the problems were fixed and the results were accessible.

Around 1.7 lakh students appeared for the CAT exams, which is less compared to the numbers last year. Out if these, 16 students scored a 100 percentile. Out of these 16 students, atleast one is a girl, informed CAT Convenor Dr Rohit Kapoor. This number is more than last year when 8 students had managed a 100 percentile score. Traditionally the results are announced in January, this year it was brought forward and announced in the month of December.

The testing agency was changed from Prometrics to Tata Consultancy Services this year. The exam pattern saw a few changes too. Unlike 30 questions till last year, 50 questions in each section were included. The four sections were Quantitative Aptitude, Data Interpretation, Verbal Ability and Logical Reasoning. The time duration of the exam was increased to 170 minutes from the usual 140 minutes.

Compared to last year, more seats are up for grab this time. The government has announced six new premier management institutes across many states. Hence the total number of IIMs has gone up from 13 to 19.
