After 67 years of its formation, Uttar Pradesh celebrated its first foundation day on Wednesday in the state capital Lucknow. The three-day ‘UP Diwas’ was inaugurated by the Vice-President M Venkaiah Naidu who launched projects worth Rs 25,000 crore on the occasion.

Earlier known as United Province, Uttar Pradesh was formed through a gazette notification on January 24 1950.

Speaking at the opening day of the three-day celebration at Awadh Shilp Gram in Lucknow , the Vice-President said, “Uttar Pradesh is a major contributor in the economic growth of the country and India will not progress till Uttar Pradesh becomes Uttam Pradesh and is developed to the next level.”

Lauding the Yogi Adityanath government’s ‘one district one product’ initiative, Naidu stressed the need to improve the law and order situation in Uttar Pradesh to boost investment. “I suggest to withdraw all licensed weapons in the state and the crime graph would automatically come down in Uttar Pradesh. Majority of the crime are committed through these licensed weapons,” he suggested to the UP CM.

The idea of celebrating UP Foundation day (UP Diwas) was mooted by the UP Governor Ram Naik in 2014. “I wrote several letters to then Akhilesh Yadav government but I am at pain that it paid no heed to my suggestion of celebrating UP Diwas. It will give a new identity to the state in the country,” stated Naik.

Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said that the main job his government is to make Uttar Pradesh a developed state from a ‘Beemaru State’. “Within ten months of my government’s rule, we have launched several development schemes worth Rs 80,000 crore for the welfare poor, farmers and youth,” he  claimed.

The Chief Minister said that through the unique ‘one district one product’ initiative the government plans to take products of each district in the state across India and global market. “It will not only generate 20 lakh employment opportunities but also provide a platform to skilled entrepreneurs to showcase their products in the world market. We are also starting an e-market services for taking their products globally,” announced he.

“We are expecting Rs 20 lakh crore investment in the state through UP Investors’ Summit for speeding up industrialization and infrastructure development activities. In next two to three years, our youth will not migrate for employment but people from other states would come to Uttar Pradesh to seek jobs,” claimed Yogi Adityanath.
