The campaign ended today for the election to Gurgaon constituency where AAP leader Yogendra Yadav, BJP's Rao Inderjit Singh and Congress nominee Dharampal Singh are locked in a triangular contest for April 10 polls.

A total of 22 candidates are in the fray in the constituency which comprises nine assembly segments including Bawal, Badshahpur, Nuh, Rewari, Ferozpur Jhirka, Pataudi, Sohna and Punhana.
Another important Vidhan Sabha constituency in the area is Mewat, which is dominated by Muslim population and has been lagging behind on the development front in comparison with other constituencies.

"We have made all preparations for the polling," constituency's returning officer Shekhar Vidyarthi said.

Sitting MP and former Union minister Rao Inderjit Singh, who had parted ways with Congress in September last year and joined BJP in February, is being considered a heavyweight along with AAP's Yadav.

Yadav had carried out an extensive door-to-door campaign across the constituency besides holding public meetings in many areas. AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal had also campaigned in Gurgaon.

Two-time MLA Zakir Hussain of the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) who was defeated by Singh in the 2009 parliamentary poll is also being considered a formidable contender.

The Gurgaon constituency has a total of 12.44 lakh electorate.

Traditionally Gurgaon has been an agricultural city but in the past decade has thrown open its doors to industries and real estate sector. Though the infrastructure in new Gurgaon is impressive the old Gurgaon does not have adequate facilities.
