In an unprecedented incident, Trinamool Congress Chhatra Parishad (TMCP) supporters allegedly manhandled the Vice Chancellor of Calcutta University, Suranjan Das on Wednesday.

Besides the Vice Chancellor being manhandled, teachers and officers of the university were allegedly beaten up by sticks by TMCP supporters in a bid to disperse them while they were staging a sit-in over the suspension of a Finance Officer. The TMCP state president Ashok Rudra has assured that if  involvement of any TMCP supporter is found in connection to this incident, necessary action will be taken.

"This is a very shocking incident. We are trying to find whether or not the TMCP supporters were involved. We will take necessary actions against the guilty," said Rudra.

The teachers and other officers have been staging a sit-in since last week over the suspension of its finance officer. The teachers have been demanding that the finance officer must be re-instated.

One of the teacher who was beaten up has sustained serious injury and has been subsequently rushed to the hospital. This is not the first time that allegations of vandalism have been levelled against students belonging to TMCP. Similar incidents have happened in other colleges and universities.
