Traders' body CAIT today urged Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti to implement GST from July 1, saying failure to do so will be detrimental to the state's economy and its industry will suffer.

In a letter to Mufti, the Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) highlighted the disadvantages accruing to Jammu and Kashmir from non-adoption of Goods and Services Tax.

"When the entire country is under GST regime, sales to be made by Jammu and Kashmir trade and industry to rest of the country will have an adverse affect as they will not be able to provide benefit of input credit on the sales made by them to rest of India. As such traders from other states will have restraint in purchasing goods from the state," CAIT Secretary General Praveen Khandelwal said in the letter.
