Police on Thursday registered a case against the owners of some Internet access points and photocopy shops within the periphery of Jammu University for allegedly preparing and selling research thesis illegally to the varsity students.

"We received a complaint from the University's vice chancellor in which he stated that he had come to know about this illegal practice from a newspaper story," SSP Crime Branch Jammu Mubassir Latifi said. He said the newspaper story had alleged that these cyber cafe and photocopy shop operators were illegally preparing and selling thesis for Mphil and PhD candidates of the university.

"The vice chancellor said that the Jammu University strictly follows the UGC guidelines and the statutes regarding preparation and submission of the thesis and it is was shocking that some persons were selling the thesis to the students against the prescribed rules thereby encouraging this malpractice," he said.

Latifi said that a case under various sections of the RPC has been registered with the crime branch Jammu and investigations into the case have been taken up.
