Lalu Prasad and Nitish Kumar reunion after 20 years seems to have worked in Bihar with their "secular alliance" along with Congress today registering win in six assembly seats in bypolls. BJP, which had won six out of the 10 seats in 2010, suffered a setback as it bagged just four seats. JD(U) has won Jale seat while alliance partner Congress registered victory in Bhagalpur. BJP has won Narkatiaganj, Banka and Mohania (SC) seats. The results of 10 seats in the Bihar Assembly by-election were being watched keenly, with political pundits seeing it as a 'semi-final' before the full-fledged assembly elections scheduled next year in the state.

These polls were important and the citizens of Bihar have given their verdict in our favor. I am satisfied with the bypoll results and would like to thank all the voters. The results of bypolls are a clear indication that people of Bihar won't accept divisive politics. We have won BJP's bastion and our candidates have won with huge margins.
Political reactions to by-poll result
Upendra Kushwaha (RLSP): Bypoll results are not in favour of BJP and I accept the defeat in Bihar on behalf of NDA unit.
Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah: We have won 2 by-elections after coming to power and it is a clear indication that people are supporting; there is support for our policies. In Bihar, Punjab, Karnataka people have already changed their mind about BJP.

Karnataka: Congress wrests seat from BJP, leads in another, BJP ahead in one
The ruling Congress in Karnataka on Monday wrested the Bellary Rural seat from BJP and was ahead in another constituency. Congress' N Y Gopalakrishna trounced BJP's Obalesh by an impressive margin of over 33,000 votes. BJP was ahead in Shikaripura, where its party National Vice-President B S Yeddyurappa's son B Y Raghavendra was leading by over 2,900 votes against Congress' H S Shantaveerappa Gowda in a close battle.

Punjab: Akali Dal wins Talwandi Sabo seat
Ruling Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) candidate Jeet Mohinder Singh Sidhu today won the Talwandi Sabo Assembly seat in Punjab, defeating his nearest Congress rival Harminder Singh Jassi.Sidhu, who was a Congress MLA before deserting the party to join SAD, drubbed Congress nominee Harminder Singh Jassi by a margin of 46,642 votes.

Secular alliance comprising RJD, JD(U) and Congress is leading in Bihar with alliance candidates ahead in seven seats and BJP in three of the ten Assembly seats.
Madhya Pradesh: BJP retains Agar; defeats Congress by over 27,000 votes
he BJP on Monday retained the Agar Assembly seat by a margin of 27,102 votes with its candidate Gopal Parmar defeating Congress' Rajkumar Gore. The result was announced by the District Returning Officer after the counting was over.

BJP leads in 6, secular alliance ahead in 4 seats in Bihar
BJP is leading in six seats while secular alliance comprising RJD, JD(U) and Congress is ahead in 4 seats of the total 10 Assembly seats where bypoll was held on August 21. According to trends made available by the Election Office at 9 AM, an hour after counting began, BJP is leading at Narkatiaganj, Rajnagar (SC), Jale, Hajipur, Banka and Mohania (SC). Counting of votes for Karnataka Assembly by-polls begins
Counting of votes for the August 21 by-poll elections to the three Assembly seats in Karnataka began on Monday morning. Chikkodi-Sadalga, Shikaripura and Bellary Rural went to the polls after Prakash Hukkeri (Congress) and former Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa and B Sriramulu (both BJP) vacated their seats respectively following their election to the Lok Sabha.
