Since the killing of Burhan Wani in an encounter with security forces on July 8, peace has finally come to the valley after 79 days of clashes between protesters and security forces in which over 80 people lost their lives.

Wani's father Muzaffar has spoken about his son's aspirations to join the mainstream and his opinion on the Uri attack.

In an interview with the Times of India, the senior Wani revealed that Burhan wanted to join the Indian Army when he was ten. "When he was 10, he told an Indian Army officer that he wanted to join the Army. He said this when a raid was being conducted to search militants in our village."

"Burhan had a strong liking for camouflage outfits," said Muzaffar. He also said that his son would have loved to play for India and not Pakistan.

Muzaffar said that they had talked about Burhan's childhood aspiration during a conversation dissuading him from joining militancy.

Speaking about the recent Uri attack, Wani said that he did not believe that Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) or Pakistan was behind it. "Even a Muslim from Hindustan can come. It could even be an attack by Kashmiri militants," he said. He added that if there was indeed any evidence to this effect, then the matter should be probed.

He also said that he liked PM Nawaz Sharif's speech about his son, "I liked everything that Nawaz Sharif said. He said Burhan's killing had brought a new light in this movement of freedom."

Muzaffar added that he was unhappy with PM Modi's response to the Kashmir unrest."More than 100 people have been killed in Kashmir in the last two months. He hasn't shown any grief. He only expressed grief over the killing of soldiers," he added.

He also said that he wants his daughter Irm Jahan to become a teacher and believes his youngest son Naveed will study and not pick up arms.
