Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) leader Brinda Karat on Monday accused the Trinamool Congress (TMC) of linking up with Muslim fundamentalist forces and functioning in West Bengal in a sectarian way. Karat said this while commenting on the Burdwan blast and in response to the alleged recovery of IEDs, mobile devices and Jihadi literature from the house of a TMC worker. "The TMC undoubtedly is in cahoots with Muslim fundamentalist organizations, and the BJP and the RSS are trying to organize Hindu fundamentalist forces," Karat told ANI.

"West Bengal, which represented the unity of the secular forces against all kinds of fundamentalist forces, is now being converted in a very sectarian way, the groups of fundamentalists functioning in the name of this religion or that religion are very active. It is the duty of all the citizens of West Bengal to ensure those traditions which were strengthened during left regime remain as a firm basis of West Bengal," she added. On the investigation of the Burdwan blast, Karat said the West Bengal Government is playing soft with such organizations.

"It's a very serious matter because this deeply affects the security of our country. The Government of West Bengal playing a very soft role towards the activities of these organizations is something of concern," Karat said. She also said that the role of the local police is suspicious and dubious.

She further said, "Therefore, we have demanded that the NIA should investigate this in a time bound frame with a sense of urgency. They must investigate all the dimensions, what is the role of Trinamool Congress in this because the TMC office is involved." On Thursday, two women were arrested in connection with a blast in a two-storey house at Khargram, in the heart of Burdwan town, in which two suspected terrorists died and another was critically injured. Initially Indian Mujahideen (IM) was thought to be using the house, but investigators said late on Sunday that another terror outfit appeared to be responsible.
