The announcement of the exit polls on Sunday, which predicted a decisive victory for the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA), has infused the party with new-found confidence, especially in Madhya Pradesh, where it lost power to the Congress in December.

A buoyant Madhya Pradesh unit of the BJP has written to Governor Anandiben Patel demanding a special session of state Assembly to seek a floor test. "I am writing a letter to the governor to convene a special session of the Assembly. We want a discussion on important issues like farm loan waiver, and we will test the government strength," said Gopal Bhargava, leader of Opposition in MP Assembly.

Congress government under Kamal Nath is holding on to power by a wafer-thin majority. It had emerged the single largest party with 114 seats in the 230-member Assembly, just five more than BJP's 109. But it had to take help from two BSP MLAs, one from SP and four Independents.
