Bulandshahr gangrape case: 18 teams formed, 28 locations searched, said Meerut IGP

The main accused and 5 others have been arrested in the case by the Meerut police in the Bulandshahr gangrape case.

Meerut zone IGP Sujit Pandey on Tuesday said 18 teams have been constituted to bring all the culprits in the Bulandshahr rape case to book. Addressing a press conference in Noida, he said two torches, a mobile phone and Rs 340 were found from the possession of the main accused, Saleem Bawariya. The earrings and foot rings of the victims were also recovered from him, Pandey said, adding the accused claimed that they had done a reecce of Kithore area on July 27.

The accused said they reached Hapur on July 28 via a mini bus and switched off their phones. They drank at a nearby liquor shop before looting and raping the mother-daughter duo on NH-91 on July 29, police said. After committing the crime, the accused fled to Jharkhand, he said, adding an accused named Fati was absconding. A total of six persons have been arrested in this connection.

The Meerut IG said 18 teams have been formed and 28 locations identified for nabbing all the accused in the case. Pandey said around 10 to 11 persons are part of the dacoit gang.

"A manhunt will be launched to arrest all gang members. The further arrest and interrogation may expose several other crimes committed by this gang in other states too," he said.
