Congress became the third party to file for a no-confidence motion against the BJP-led government on Friday. Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge filed for the motion to be included in the list of business on March 27 when the House convenes next.

“This House expresses a no-confidence in the Council of Ministers of the Narendra Modi government,” read the notice tabled by Kharge to the Lok Sabha secretary general. Sources said that Congress has also issued a three-line whip to party MPs, asking them to remain present on Tuesday.

Party sources said that Kharge will try to garner votes from Opposition MPs to come out in support of the motion. Prior to this, YSR Congress and former NDA ally TDP have moved a no-confidence motion against the Modi government.

The notices have not been taken up in the last two weeks owing to disruptions.
