Pakistan's plans to push in militants into Jammu and Kashmir were foiled on Tuesday when Border Security Force (BSF) discovered a 20-metre-long underground tunnel originating from the other side of the International Border (IB) in Ramgarh sector, of Samba district in Jammu division.

The tunnel was detected after alert troops during a routine petrol got suspicious about a particular place near the International Border. During scanning they found an underground tunnel originating from Pakistan. The tunnel was drilled close to the border fence on the IB to facilitate infiltration into the Indian side.

A BSF spokesman said, "The tunnel's origin is from Pakistan side. It ends at a distance of approximately 20 meters ahead of Border fence. The tunnel was yet to be completed and was detected well in advance before reaching the fence," he said.

The spokesman said there are regular inputs about presence of terrorists in Pakistan border villages desperately looking for infiltration into Indian Territory. "BSF troops have once again neutralised the terrorists attempts to harm India. BSF troops are extremely vigilant and prepared to foil any such emerging threats," he said.

Other tunnels

It is not the first time that an underground tunnel has been detected on the IB. Last year in March, BSF had discovered a 30-metre underground tunnel originating from the other side of the IB in RS Pora sector of Jammu division.
Earlier in 2014, Indian Army discovered an under construction tunnel on the LoC in Jammu division which originated from the Pakistani side. With a length of the 130 to 150 metres and four feet high, the tunnel was drilled 20 feet deep inside the ground along the LoC.

In 2012 Border Security Force (BSF) had discovered 400 meter long and 25 feet deep underground tunnel originating from the Pakistani side on the Indo-Pak international border in Samba sector of Jammu division.
