As the Supreme Court deferred the hearing of Ram Temple-Babri Mosque title suit till January 10, the Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) on Friday said that legislation by Parliament is the "only way out" for resolving the issue.

"We are not surprised. Neither did we expect something from the Supreme Court, nor do we expect speedy justice from the judiciary," said VHP general secretary Surendra Jain while speaking to DNA.

A Supreme Court bench comprising Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi and Justice SK Kaul on Friday disposed the matter within 30 seconds.

"The deferment of the hearing itself reconfirms that the VHP's stand of Parliament legislation is the only way to resolve the issue and there is no other way out," he said. The VHP leader said now the government must come forward and bring a law.

The VHP is holding a grand Dharma Sansad at Uttar Pradesh's Prayag on January 31 and February 1, which will be attended by more than 1,000 seers from across the country, where the Hindu body will chalk out its next course of action.

VHP national spokesperson Vinod Bansal said it is "very clear" that the case is not in the "priority list" of the apex court.

In a recent interview, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had said an ordinance on Ram temple can be brought only after Supreme Court ruling.

Bansal, who called the Modi dispensation "a government of Ram bhakts", said his organisation expects the government to exhibit a "positive step forward" within its tenure.

Reacting to Rahul Gandhi's comment that Ram temple shouldn't be the agenda for 2019 elections, Bansal said the Congress chief's statement was reaffirmation of the UPA government's stand in 2007 when it had said, "Lord Ram does not exist."
