Nayeem Qadir Bhat, the youth who was shot dead in a firing by the security forces, was a budding cricketer whose dream was to play for India, reports Firstpost.

Such was his love for cricket that the walls of his room are covered with posters of Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, Virat Kholi, Wasim Akram and Brian Lara. The back of the door of his room is adorned with a poster of Kashmiri cricketer Pervez Rasool.

Nayeem was chosen for the  All India-level coaching camp for cricket three years ago and was a student of first year in Government Degree College in Handwara.  “Cricket was his passion. He would travel to Baramulla Degree College to practice, which is 30 kilometre from here, almost three days a week and played for a local club,” Farooq Ahmad, Bhat’s cousin.

Nayeem's cricketing skills had won hearts during his performance in the state-level Under-19 cricket competition.  He was the first cricketer from northern district of Kupwara to have been selected for Under-19

Amir Nabi, a resident of Baramulla town said it was Bhat's dream to play for India.

His grief-stricken mother pleads with mourning visitors to ask Nayeem's father to get their son's body back from the police station.  "Can you please tell him to bring my Gavaskar back," she asked them.

Gh Qadir Bhat, Nayeem's father said that his son could have been saved if forces gad not fired at him directly and had shot in the air.

According to the report, Bhat was shot when he was taking a video of the protests in Handwara. Two more people have died in the incident.
