The BRICS nations (Brazil-Russia- India-China-South Africa) on Monday condemned the violence by the terror groups Taliban, al-Qaeda and Pak-based Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and Jaish-e-Mohammad in Xiamen Declaration.

Voicing concerns about the security situation in the region and violence by terror groups, BRICS urged nations to adopt a comprehensive policy in combating terrorism, countering radicalisation and curbing terror financing. 

"We deplore all terrorist attacks worldwide, including attacks in BRICS countries, and condemn terrorism in all its forms and manifestations wherever committed and by whomsoever and stress that there can be no justification," said BRICS leaders Xiamen Declaration.

The declaration also called for expeditious finalisation and adoption of the Comprehensive Convention on International Terrorism by the UN.

The BRICS Summit began with a group photograph of leaders of the five countries and was preceded by a warm handshake between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping, who received the leaders of Brazil, Russia and South Africa.

Modi was the third leader to reach the convention centre, venue of the 9th BRICS Summit in this port city of China and was followed by Russian President Vladimir Putin. Modi is also scheduled to hold a bilateral meeting with Xi tomorrow.

Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi sought a strong partnership among BRICS nations to spur growth, saying that the bloc has developed a robust framework for cooperation and contributed to the stability in a world 'drifting towards uncertainty'.
