BRD medical college tragedy: Owner of oxygen supplier company gets bail after 8 months

After getting bail from the Supreme Court, Maneesh Bhandari, one of the nine accused in the BRD Medical college tragedy in which over 62 infants were killed last year following non-supply of oxygen, was released from the Gorakhpur jail on Thursday evening after eight months.

The owner of Pushpa Sales Pvt Ltd, which was supplying oxygen to the BRD Medical College, Maneesh was accused of snapping oxygen supply to the medical college due to non-payment of his dues in August last year, which led to death of such large number of infants on August 10 and 11.

He was arrested from Gorakhur border on September 17 2017 when he was about to run away to neighbouring Bihar. He was facing charges under Sections 406, 120-B of the IPC. Earlier, his bail plea was rejected by the Allahabad High Court.

Otherr eight accused, including then Head BRD Medical College, Dr Rajeev Mishra and Dr Kafeel Ahmed, are still languishing in Gorakhpur jail after their pleas were rejected by the High Court. The Indian Medical Association (IMA), Gorakhpur has now taken up their case and have requested to the Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to help them in come out of the jail. Dr Mishra is seriously ill and is currently under treatment at the Lohia Hospital in Lucknow.
