The Bombay High Court will on Friday hear petition filed by Hotel Owners Association from Thane challenging an order passed by the State Excise department declaring February 20, 21 (voting days) and 23 (result day) as dry days in Mumbai and Thane.

The petition challenges the notification of the State Excise department issued on January 24, declaring dry day from the evening of February 19 to 21 and on February 23. The Association mentioned the petition before the court on Thursday which has posted the plea for further hearing and asked the government to clear its stand.

The petition claims that the notification is "illegal, arbitrary and perverse". It would affect their business during the mentioned days and thus infringes upon their fundamental right to earn a livelihood.
