Boating facilities for the public would be launched at Kurichi lake here in future, besides a walking track, Tamil Nadu Municipal Administration Minister S P Velumani said here today.

Participating in a function to inaugurate rejuevenation work at the lake, he said the water body would be cleaned and desilted in association with Isha Yoga Centre and Neyveli Lignite Corporation (NLC).

The canals leading to the lake would also be cleaned to ensure that water reached it, he added.

"Walkways and a boat house will be set up at the lake for the benefit of the people and to promote nature conservation," the Minister said.

He also appreciated Isha Yoga Centre founder Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev's gesture of inviting NLC to join the rejuvenation work at the lake, which was an initiative to manage the water crisis in the city.

NLC Chairman and Managing Director Dr S K Acharya, who was also present, said the corporation as part of its CSR initiatives, was supporting desilting and deepening of the lake at an estimated cost of Rs 1.65 crore.

Jaggi Vasudev said that apart from desilting, it was important to make way for water to enter the lake and requested the government to carry out a topographical survey near all the lakes in the State for this purpose.

District Collector T N Hariharan and Corporation Commissioner K Vijay Karthikeyan were also present.
