In a swift move, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has removed two litter bins from outside a church in the Juhu Koliwada area. The bins, which were installed by the civic body right in front of the Holy Cross Church board as part of its Clean Mumbai campaign, had angered the local Christian community members.

dna on November 7 had reported that the community members were miffed at the apathy of civic authorities since they had not removed the bins despite repeated complaints.

Larson Fernandes, a Juhu resident, said he is happy that the bins have been finally removed. "Even after bringing the matter to the notice of the K-west ward authorities and the local political leaders, they were not removed. The bins were placed right in front of our church's board, which displays vital information that the church has to give out to its members, including the mass timings. We are happy that they have finally been removed," said Fernandes, who fearing legal action from the civic body, did not remove it himself.

Fernandes informed that the community members have called off the protest rally they were initially planning to the K-west ward office on Saturday, since the bins were removed on Friday.

Assistant municipal commissioner of K-west ward Parag Masurkar informed that since there were two government holidays last week, they could not take immediate action. "They were removed on the next working day itself by the ward," Masurkar said.
