Shiv Sena president Uddhav Thackeray will sound the bugle on Thursday for his party's campaign for the upcoming Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections and is likely to give emphasis on 'Hindutva' instead of the 'Marathi maanus' issue.

Interestingly, Shiv Sena which has been ruling BMC for over two decades, is now striving hard to expand the party's canvas. In an effort to bring North Indians as well as the Gujarati and trading community under its fold, the Sena chief is likely to shed his party's 'Marathi maanus' rallying cry in favour of more emphasis on 'Hindutva'.

Sources within Shiv Sena told DNA that Uddhav Thackeray planned to attack the Devendra Fadnavis government for issuing a circular on 4 January this year, to remove photographs and photo-frames of Hindu deities and idols from government offices. The circular also says that religious rituals and festivals should not be practised in government offices, as this was against the provisions of the Constitution of India which insists on a secular government machinery. Sena ministers are reportedly restless over the issue and have told Thackeray that the previous Congress-NCP government had also issued a similar circular in the year 2002, but did not insist on implementing it.

Sources told DNA that Uddhav Thackeray would air the resentment of Sena ministers over this issue in his speech on Thursday, before meeting block in-charges of the party.
