As Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) voting is underway, an 83-year-old man does his part by alerting fellow senior citizens that they do not have to stand in the line at the polling booths.

"There is no queue for senior citizens," says Krishnakumar Pradhan. He politely told every senior citizen he met while walking downstairs after casting the vote at M L Dahanukar College in Vile Parle's ward number 85.

Pradhan took it upon himself to spread the awareness among the senior citizens outside his polling booth. A large number of senior citizens were seen turning out in the early morning hours to cast their vote, but many feared that they will have to stand in a long queue outside the polling stations.

Since 2014, Pradhan learned that senior citizens don’t have to wait in a long queue rather they can directly go and cast their vote. As many senior citizens are unaware of it, after casting his vote, Pradhan started spreading the word to as many senior citizens he saw on his way back home from the polling booth.

Krishnakumar Pradhan, an 83-year-old resident of Vile Parle, was happy to see the cooperation of the other residents as they give their way to the elderly citizens.

“Not many people are aware of it. The officer or policeman standing outside the polling booth ask the senior citizens to come forward rather than standing in the queue. I saw this during the last Vidhan Sabha elections in the city. But in the long queues, sometimes the officers forget to ask the senior citizens," Pradhan said.

Adding: "Rather than waiting for them to approach us, the senior citizens should themselves go forward. It took me hardly five minutes at the polling booth to cast my vote and come out.”
