Much needed relief from seething heat and humidity came for Mumbaikars late Saturday evening as several parts of Mumbai as well as adjoining areas began seeing gusty winds, thunderstorm followed by rains.
On Saturday, Mumbai saw the maximum temperature of 35.2 degree Celsius being recorded at Santacruz with humidity of 67 percent while Colaba saw the maximum of 35 degree Celsius with humidity of 80 percent.
“There were good rains witnessed in Badlapur area on Saturday and thunderstorm activity with gusty winds was reported from several parts of Mumbai too post late Saturday evening. This is the result of the huge cloud cover over Mumbai and Konkan area and more rains can be expected soon. Pre-monsoon activity is being witnessed all over Maharashtra though the Southwest Monsoon is still to hit the State,” said an IMD official adding that from June 5 there should be more spurts of rainsin the city.
By around 8pm several parts of the city in eastern as well as western suburbs began receiving rains with gusty winds and thunderstorms. Rains and thunders are being reported from area like Dahisar, Borivali, Kandivali, Powai and parts of Andheri.
The first spell of rains also saw few motorcyclists slipping on the road along the Western Express Highway and SV Road.
