Blast cases: NIA arrests 3 of Bangladesh terror outfit

The mastermind, identified as Mohammed Jahidul Islam infamous as Boma Miyan, was arrested from Ramanagara near Bengaluru.

The National Investigative Agency (NIA) has arrested three suspected members of (Jamat-ul-Mujahidin Bangladesh), the terror outfit responsible for West Bengal's Burdwan and Bihar's Bodh Gaya blasts, after carrying out national-wide raids this week.

The agency got tip-off about the suspected members' whereabouts from Intelligence Bureau (IB), following which they carried out arrests. The mastermind, identified as Mohammed Jahidul Islam infamous as Boma Miyan, was arrested from Ramanagara near Bengaluru.

"His house was also searched and some electronic devices besides traces of explosives have been recovered during search. He is the top leader of JMB in India and is wanted in Burdwan blast case and in many other cases in Bangladesh also," the NIA said in the statement.

The agency also said he was mastermind behind Bodh Gaya blast case, hours after the Dalai Lama finished his talk and the gathering had dispersed. Islam was produced before the Special Court in Bengaluru and the court granted five days of transit remand. He will now be produced before the special court in Patna.

Along with Islam, two other accused were also arrested. Abdul Karim and Mustafizur Rehman, from Murshidabad and Birbhum districts of West Bengal, respectively, were arrested from a labour camp in Kerala's Malappuram district on August 3, a statement released by the NIA said. The two men had been hiding in the camp after they allegedly planted improvised explosive devices (IED) at Bodh Gaya. During interrogation, Islam told NIA that on his directions Rehman had arranged and assembled all the explosives for the incident.

"During investigation of the case, identity of 10 accused persons have been established," the NIA stated.

On April 3, .2018, NIA had arrested 3 accused – Ahmad Ali, Mohammad Paigambar and Noor Alam.

The investigation revealed that a group of terrorists belonging to JMB operating under Islam and Rehman, both Bangladeshis and have been charge-sheeted as absconders in Burdwan Blast.

Interrogation further revealed that arrested accused Karim at the time of incident was present at the hideout at Jehanabad and was part of the Gang and was involved in preparation of IED, conspiracy and planning. Rehman is part of the conspiracy, collected material for IED and conducted recce of the place of incident.
