A blast at a crude bomb manufacturing unit killed at least four people although unconfirmed reports say that seven people had died in the explosion. The incident happened at Darbarpur village of Labhpur area in Birbhum district today. N Sudheer Kumar, SP, Birbhum said, “At least four persons have died. The explosion was an accidental one while people were making crude bombs. We are investigating into it.

It was found out that while three persons died at the spot and one died at the hospital and several others are in a critical condition.

Sources said that since April 19, there was a clash between two groups of the TMC, from Darbarpur and Mirbandh villages in connection with a turf war and control over dry river beds where illegal sand mining is carried out. A number of bombs were hurled. Later police brought the situation under control and police personnel were posted at several places. Area locals said that some, at Darbarpur were making crude bombs on Friday where the explosion took place.

Many of the area locals however, claimed that they were attacked by outsiders and alleged that they were members of Trinamool Congress.

TMC district president Anubrata Mondal, brushed the theory of a gang clash and said it was the handiwork of the CPI(M). “There is no group clash within our party. I have been informed that CPI(M) workers had launched a sudden attack on our people. I have talked to the cops and asked them to investigate thoroughly,” Mondal said.

Ram Chandra Dome, local CPI(M) leader attributed the incident to TMC’s infighting. “It is a result of a clash between sand mafias of TMC party which has led to the loss of lives of innocent villagers,” he said.
