Extremely upset with the Centre's approach to bringing back black money stashed away in safe havens abroad, veteran social activist Anna Hazare on Wednesday issued a stern warning to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led NDA Government that he would launch a stir if the latter fails to deliver on its promise.
"If they fail to bring back black money, then, people of the nation will have to resort to a movement. If after giving assurance they don't keep their promises and I will participate as a soldier," he said. Training guns on the Centre, Hazare said: "Shri Narendra Modiji and others from his party had assured the people during the Lok Sabha elections that they will bring back the nations' illegal money stashed in Swiss banks and from other banks within 100 days. But now 150 days have passed."
"Eight names have been exposed yet,...you had assured that within 100 days you will bring back the black money and every citizen will receive 15 lakhs in their bank account. So, the people are looking forward to that with lots of hope," he added while expressing his displeasure over the slow government's approach. The veteran social activist also demanded that the government must reveal the names of all the black money account holders.
"Whatever black money is illegally deposited must be brought back to the country, and those involved, their names must be revealed," he said. Attorney General Mukul Rohatgi earlier on Wednesday submitted three sets of documents, which reportedly includes the names of 627 people who have stashed away wealth in banks abroad, to the Supreme Court in a sealed cover. The government also submitted a status report in a sealed cover.
The Supreme Court has reportedly instructed the apex court registry to hand over the sealed covered information to a Special Investigation Team, and asked that details be made known to it by next month. The apex court also said that only SIT's chairman and vice chairman are allowed to open the sealed envelopes. Earlier on Tuesday, the apex court had asked the government to reveal the names of all those who have stashed their black money in foreign accounts. The apex court's directive came after the government had earlier on Monday released the names of only three account holders.
