The Supreme Court on Wednesday set aside Rajasthan High Court order keeping in suspension conviction of actor Salman Khan in Black Buck case..
“We have filed an SLP (Special Leave Petition) in the court challenging the stay of conviction granted by the High Court of Rajasthan. That has been allowed by the Supreme Court today, and we in the same reference, set two grounds. First, that it is against the rule of law and that has been upheld by the court. And, it has granted our leave,” said Varun Punia, the state government’s lawyer.
“As per this order, he will not be able to travel abroad, but can put forward his request,” he added.
Apex Court has asked High Court to consider afresh Salman's plea on the issue of staying the conviction.
The Rajasthan government had approached the apex court against the High Court order which had, on last November 12, stayed his 2006 conviction in the case and paved the way for him to get a UK visa. Under UK immigration rules, any person convicted for more than four years is not eligible for visa.

On November 5, 2014, actor Salman Khan had tried to convince the Supreme Court that the Rajasthan high court was right in suspending his conviction. However, the apex court wanted to know from his lawyer, senior advocate Sidharth Luthra, whether High Court had suspended his case on merit or on the ground that a foreign country had refused Salman entry for a Hindi film shoot last year.
Salman had been convicted and sentenced to five years in jail under the Wildlife Protection Act by a Jodhpur magistrate court in 2006, and the ruling was upheld by the sessions court in 2007.

On August 31, 2007 the high court suspended the sentence, but told Salman not to leave the country without court's prior permission.

Last November, the high court however, altered the condition for travelling abroad and stayed the conviction after accepting his submission that he had not been able to obtain a UK visa due to the sentence.
The complaint lodged against actors Salman Khan, Saif Ali Khan, Neelam, Tabu and Sonali Bendre was that they were involved in hunting the protected black bucks. These actors were accused of poaching two black bucks in Kankvillage near Jodhpur in Oct 1998. The alleged incident took place during the shoot of the film 'Hum Saath Saath Hain'.
