Congress Party spokesman Rashid Alvi on Sunday hit out at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) over continuously critiquing Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in their election campaigns.

“It is highly unfortunate that some political leaders put across baseless allegations for the Indian Prime Minister, Manmohan Sing. Everyone across the globe respects him as a leader. The Bharatiya Janata Party should not use derogatory remarks ageist him as they are constantly playing with Singh’s respect,” said Alvi.

Singh has often invited the wrath of BJP for his economic policies and advocating Foreign Direct Investment (FDI), an issue also responsible for political logjam in the country.

Meanwhile, BJP leader, Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi maintained that the party’s key concern at the moment is the Gujarat elections.

“Election in Gujarat is very important for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). We hope to carry forward or principles of good governance and progress and win these elections. The BJP has capable leaders for the prime ministerial post but right now we are concentrating on the provincial elections and not contemplating about the future prime minister,” said Naqvi.
