Is the much-touted camaraderie between Bahujan Samaj Party and Samajwadi Party a one-time wonder? The unusual tie-up between the regional political rivals saw the sweeping the crucial bypolls in UP on March 11.

But weeks after the stunning victory, the BSP saw a crushing defeat in the Rajya Sabha polls on Friday when BJP’s Anil Agarwal beat BSP’s lone candidate Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar in Uttar Pradesh.

Though BSP cheif Mayawati has not spoken so far, senior party leader Satich Chandra Mishra said that it was due to BJP’s money power that the ruling party could win the elections of the Upper House.

‘BJP used all its money power and their state powers in the voting. They did not let two of our people vote, they were not allowed to come out of the jail. Even when they had the orders from the court & the election commission,’ Mishra was quoted as saying by news agency ANI.

However, the BJP said that BSP must see the real face of its new-found friend.

‘BJP doesn't use such cheap tricks to win elections. BSP should see & introspect that the party that supported them, actually betrayed them at the end,’ Keshav Prasad Maurya, Deputy CM of Uttar Pradesh on BSP's allegation.

The day saw high-voltage drama when tyhere was a two-hour delay in the counting of votes in UP as the opposition Samajwadi Party and BSP lodged a complaint with the Election Commission.

Besides BJP's prominent winner Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, others who made it to the Upper House of Parliament from the party are Ashok Bajpai, Vijay Pal Singh Tomar, Sakal Deep Rajbhar, Kanta Kardam, Anil Jain, Harnath Singh Yadav, GVL Narasimha Rao and ninth candidate Anil Kumar Agarwal, who pulled off a surpise win with the help of second preference votes.

The remaining seat went to the Samajwadi Party (Jaya Bachchan) in the polls marred by cross-voting from both the sides, which led to the defeat of BSP candidate Bhimrao Ambedkar in the prestigeous battle of ballots.
