BJP trying to 'make up' with Congress through GST Bill: Shiv Sena

Expressing their displeasure on not being at the centre of the discussions on the crucial Goods and Services Tax (GST) Bill, the Shiv Sena on Monday claimed that the Bharatiya Janata Party was using the landmark Bill as a tool to make up with the Congress party.

Speaking to ANI here, Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi must take political parties from all states into consideration, if he really believed that the GST Bill was a matter of national interest.

"Mumbai Mahanagar Palika is one of the largest corporations in the country. We have to run a huge city. You can't only take the Congress into consideration. GST is not simply limited to congress. BJP is trying to make up with Congress through GST. Do no other parties have a say in this matter," Raut said.

Meanwhile, the Congress Party has said that they would support a constructive and positive GST Bill and questioned the ruling dispensation for making changes in the provisions of the same.

The Congress has three issues with the GST bill and wants the Centre to make necessary amendments to it. The party demands that a cap of 18 per cent be included in the GST Bill, deletion of the provision which allows imposition of one per cent tax by additional levy and an independent dispute mechanism.

The Monsoon Session of Parliament, which commences today will have 20 working days and will conclude on the 12th of next month.

A total of 25 bills, including the crucial GST Bill, are expected to come up for consideration and passage during the session.
