Buoyed by its success in putting up Ram Navami events, West Bengal BJP is all set to organise Saraswati Puja across the state, which senior leaders said is in accordance to an instruction by the party's national president Amit Shah.

“Celebration of Saraswati Puja would be one of the best ways to build a connection with the people in general. Our highest leadership has instructed to put up the event across Bengal,” a senior state BJP leader said.

He also said that organising Saraswati Puja in Bengal was the brainchild of former TMC Rajya Sabha member Mukul Roy who had defected to BJP last year. “It had been one of the strongest tools of the TMC to develop a communication with the common people and BJP was trying to exploit that area as well,” he added.

State BJP president Dilip Ghosh confirmed that BJP would be celebrating it in a big way.

“Besides being a religious festival, Saraswati Puja is a part of the culture of this state and thus this year we have decided that it will be celebrated in a big way by us. It will be celebrated at the BJP youth wing office, as well as my MLA office at Kharagpur in West Midnapore district,” Ghosh said.

He added that instructions have been sent out to party leaders right down to the grassroot level to associate with clubs and local organisers of Saraswati puja at their localities.

Party national secretary and former state president Rahul Sinha too said, “It is occasions like these that we need to latch on to reach out to people. We will do this at all possible events. It will definitely help in increasing the popularity of the party.”

Besides Panchayat election this year, state BJP leaders are also keeping in mind 2019 Lok Sabha elections in their attempt to build a relationship with the public.
